Gorilla Falls – Contemplating the Journey

I debuted my new work ‘Gorilla Falls – Contemplating the Journey’ this month in Colorado .

Gorilla Falls - Contemplating the Journey by Jamie Rood Buy Here

The head rock of the falls (near the base of the Hanging Lake trail) looks like a gorilla, so named it ‘Gorilla Falls’. The ocean, sky & beach shots were taken at the beginning of my journey at Montauk Point, Long Island New York in May 2009 and the falls in Glenwood Canyon, Colorado near the end in June 2009.

Interpret the scene and the title as you will… 🙂

My gosh it is high resolution – I had to shoot the falls in 11 segments of 6 exposures each to get everything in. I was crouched straddling part of the falls against the rack wall between me and the trail. Even if I could have pulled back to get everything in one shot, I wouldn’t have cause it would changed the perspective. Yeh, guess I need a wider angle lens – that’d help a bit 😉 The Sky (2×3 exposures) the ocean (1×3 exposures) and the beach (1×6 exposures) were taken about a month earlier on my trip at Montauk Point in New York (east end of long island) around the lighthouse.

So whats that – about 81 or more photographic frames and somewhere around 100 megapixel resolution? Had to save in multiple files in multiple stages to get around the 2Gb file limit. Yes takes forever to save – my poor mac 😉

Quite a bit of work to blend everything – especially around the leaf which has gotten comments. Course blend lighting, digital touch-up over seems etc. and more…

Thanks & congratulations to John (near Salida, CO) and Erick (Crested Butte, CO) for acquiring #1 in the matted & canvas editions respectively.

Back in Texas! :)

Well. Rolled back into Texas Monday, stayed with mom & dad in Gardendale, then got back to Austin yesterday afternoon. took the ‘scenic route’ in the beginning of the trip and after about 7 hrs in the road, found I had only made a couple hrs progress compared to the ‘quick route’ stopping, shooting & talking ate most of that time 😉

Now working on orders from the August Colorado shows and prepping for September Fest in Midland!

Shooting Old Factory & ‘Classic Cruisers’ in Salida, CO

In the morning shot an old factory along the river. really neat architechure. Got a couple with ‘S’ mountain (for ‘Salida’ I guess) in the background/above.

One of the couples at the arts festival own ‘Classic Cruisers’ in Salida where they restore Toyota Land Cruisers. They invited me to go out and shoot some old ‘classics’ on Monday 😉

Salida Fine Arts Festival

Well, had a great time in Salida this weekend 🙂 Decided to try calling my old friend Anuja (lives in the Springs) one more time – as been trying for about 6 months but she’s been in India and had the phone shut off. Anyway, she finally answered and swung up and picked her up and she helped me all weekend 😉

We were on the street by the food vendors – yet still didn’t eat til later each day as we were pretty busy. Crowd was good on Sat – a little slow on Sunday. Old pickups and architectural were hits, and also sold my newest piece which I debuted:

‘Gorilla Falls – Contemplating the Journey’

– still in Colorado, but will post it as soon as I get back 🙂

Beatiful out here and cold as hec in the morning (lows get into the 30s still), compared to highs of about 105 in Austin 😉  Look forward to next year! 🙂

Cash for Canvas!

I propose congress pass a ‘Cash for Canvas’ program where people who lament they already have full walls can trade in their old tired artwork for up to $4500 rebate. I believe by replacing all that tired old art with work like mine will inspire Americans to get out of that rut and help bring us back to financial prosperity….
